New Adventure begins today! With fresh hot pepperoni!
On the previous comic I’d mentioned taking a short diversion to talk about world building. Basically… I changed my mind. I drew up one installment, and after looking it over, I just didn’t feel like doing a whole series of them. Plus I started thinking of ways I could fit the info into future story lines. Even thought up a whole new idea for an Adventure.
So I basically changed my mind and decided to do Comics As Normal instead of a worldbuilding diversion. But here’s the one I did draw, as a bonus. It talks a bit about the Orcs.
I can really relate to Henri; I’m super scared of heights! I could never do something like skydiving! D:
Don’t worry Henri! I’m sure Kathryn will catch you if the parachute breaks.
Oh man, that Orc lore…that’s a new take on orcs if I’ve ever seen one. I like it.
Reminds me of Warhammer Orcs, which are fungus based.
Do these orcs have Orky technology? In other wards, junkyard tech? Where they can build weapons and machines out of junk that in all sense should not work, but still do due to a field that emanates from them? That somehow, if an Orc paints a vehicle red it increases in speed because ‘da red wunz go fasta!’
Heh naw, I’m not going that far with it. 😛 I’m trying to avoid borrowing from established Orc traditions too much. So no spiky metal plates or savage bloodlust.
SnK-verse orcs originated as forest dwelling tribes in a highly mountainous region, honing craftsorc skills by constructing homes of heavy timber and hewn rock. Small numbers of orcs still live in these traditional mountain villages, but even in those regions they still have TV, Wi-Fi, etc. Sue and Kathryn takes place in an urban fantasy-ish version of our world but is otherwise modern-day in setting, so orcs (and all the other races like humans, undead, pixies, anthrokin, dwarves, elves, etc) are all assimilated into a blended society.
The info bite on orcs is very interesting, thank you for it! And if you don’t feel like doing a series of them now, could you consider doing something similar between the Adventures, where a particular creature has featured heavily? Like the pirate pixie/fairy/whatever she was, her species might’ve been highlighted in such an info bite after the Adventure ended.
Or maybe periodically, and put them in a World Info section? That’s a consideration, too.
I wouldn’t mind doing more of these, it’s just that doing this one made me think of several storyline ideas where the information could be delivered in-narrative instead of relying on people remembering meta content. Like, while drawing this one I got an idea for a storyline revolving around a pregnant orc, for example.
Pixies were going to be included but, again, thinking about it gave me a storyline idea revolving around the information. Perhaps including a Pixie Bite before that storyline would be a good idea.
Here’s a hint: Soleil demonstrated a useage of swordmagic, where she duplicated her sword into six copies and sent the swarm of swords after her enemies. Based on the skills she presented at that time, Soleil would qualify as a NOVICE swordmage.
I second this request. An info bite or two between stories would be great.
