Mulching legal tender is probably a crime. Just give it all to me, and I’ll buy you some mulch. Then no one has to go to jail.

Trading legal tender for mulch? Interesting idea.
sue, you might want to leave the adoption-negotiations to sue – iยดm sure she is smart enough to recognise a way to make some much needed money ๐
also, what does phil mean about a ‘soapbox’?! i have a feeling its one of these references that totally fly above a poor non-native speakers head ๐

It’s a reference to an idiom, so yeah, probably would fly over a non-native speaker’s head. Sorry…
It comes from a time when people would stand on boxes at street corners to make some speech (political, religious, or anything else) in the hopes of attracting a crowd. Soap boxes were a good height to make people seen above the crowd, so they could be heard better.
So “Get off your soap box” became used for “You’re going on and on about nothing, cut it out,” or “Quit lecturing me about your supposed moral superiority.”
So pretty much what … said, just with a bit more context.
It bears mentioning that back in those days soap boxes; in fact all boxes, were made out of wood and could bear a persons weight. Many other items came in barrels like crackers (hence the “Cracker Barrel” line of restaurants), flour, rice, dried beans and many other foodstuffs. No FDA back then.
