My prediction: Marie IS Soleil Corbeau. She’s going to try going back in time to ‘fix’ the ritual so she’ll get to be the sword after all, but over-shoots and becomes the Pirate Captain we met in earlier episodes.
Something I read once about changeling lore (fairies/pixies/elves swapping human babies for their own kind) was an idea that the Fair Folk had to give hostages to the Devil every year, and stole humans so they wouldn’t have to send their own into Hell. It wasn’t a widely-believed motive (usually switching a baby for a fairy was explained as mischief, or the Fair Folk needing someone who could handle iron) but this might be a reference to that?
Or maybe an medieval mind’s explanation of just how a normal family ended up with a child so very different in features, or brain function. Convenient way to wave hands, not my kid, this is one of “them/those” to explain any neuro-diversity, epilepsy, hair color, bow legs, anything unexpected or different. Not that anyone might accuse me of that.
A god’s will or judgement isn’t anymore powerful than anyone else’s, mortal or otherwise. They just have the luxury of being able to sit back and watch. Reguardless of the consequences they can always fall back on working in mysterious ways or teaching a lesson or some other bull.
It sounds to me as though she’s been working for “the other side” all along (hiding her accent) — and I’m going to guess that if she had been accepted as the soul of the sword, then it wouldn’t have worked against her family member after all.
Its also possible that the accent is a sign of being given over to the sun? Soleil is a vampire and they are creations of the Bringer of Dawn and has the accent…. But then Sue is also a vampire kinda? I guess she’s not serving the BoD though.
There goes Dave again. “Here’s some obvious foreshadowing! (Here’s some subtle foreshadowing.) Here’s some more obvious foreshadowing! Are they all commenting about how the goons are going to end up in the sword? Good, good. They’re completely ignoring the REAL twist I’m about to pull off. Time to pull back the curtain!”
Oh. Oh no. 🙁 Poor Marie.
Waaaaaait a minute…
Hang on. Marie CORBEAU? Is she related to Soleil? 😮
And “Soleil” means “Sun.”
Am I reading too much into that or is this some serious foreshadowing?
No matter what, I feel so bad for Marie right now. 🙁
Serious forshadowing; and she belongs to Lucifer, the Lightbringer, the Devil himself.
Some serious stuff going on in here for sure.
Soleil also has a fae silver sword. I wonder who’s in THAT one.
And Soleil has a fae sword too. Little toothpick one, but fae silver nonetheless.
I wonder who’s in THAT one.
Oh dang.
I forgot that time works different for the fae and for gods.
And I just realized that by the last panel, Marie is speaking with the same accent Soleil has. Curiouser and curiouser. 🙁
I swear this is my last comment, I’m really over thinking this. 😉
Oh, my here’s a twisty turn. I honestly do not know what to think.

The fact that Di just gave Marie to the Sun….that’s just creepy. So this kid was just promised to the devil?

So a new villain is born. These gods and goddesses are not very kind.

Soleil isn’t the vampire pixie. That’s Magnolia. Just FYI.
