So this could be interpreted in 2 ways. 1.) The oracle was silenced in order to prevent the information from getting out and to keep the kids alive. (In which case, why silence the oracle now rather than before?) 2.) In silencing the oracle, especially at the verge of giving information about why the kids shouldn’t be saved, especially in such a way related to the bringer of the dawn, it will cause Kathryn to be suspicious of them. (This could result in her not saving them or trying to put them in an area where they can’t be involved, which would be problematic if they are actually the best hope in stopping something.)
I am leaning more towards something along the lines of the second one because the bringer of the dawn never seems to be very overt in his plans. Silencing the oracle right in front of Kathryn in such a solar way, right after he was mentioned too, seems a bit too obvious. Why not do it in a more subtle way before the translation device was made? What better way to get her to distrust the kids than to kill an oracle right in front of her after ominous warnings related to him and the kids?
In general, I don’t think that Kathryn is not going to rescue the kids. For example, if an oracle told a doctor not to rescue a kid Hitler from a serious illness or injury since it would result in the mass murder of so many, I doubt too many would take it seriously, nevertheless actually not help save his life. If it was taken seriously, I think that there would be at least some that would still save him, but would try to mitigate his future through being a positive influence. As an adult, maybe not so much, but we tend to give the benefit of the doubt that kids can be influenced and changed, especially the younger they are (and these kids are not very old).
Sorry for the long rant.
i agree, this is way too obvious – lucy is usually more the subtle type, and he totally could´ve fried the oracle before sue+kat even became aware of its existence.
Unless that was the only flower to help the kids, in which case it would have had to have been kept alive. There are other, more subtle ways to get around that other than this though. Keeping the Deathbunny family away from the oracle so that the translation spell is not there and no one understands the flower. Having someone pick the flower and deliver it to them without them knowing that it’s related to him. I could list several more examples, but the point is that any of those would be more subtle than this.
there´s also the fact that despite knowing exactly when the flare was send, the oracle wasted just enough time to NOT give enough information to be useful, just enough to sound ominous…..mighty fishy in my book!

Except Sue and Kathryn isn’t real; but is a TV show for kids set in the Selkie universe. In which case, this is perfectly logical.
I can’t quite figure out what part you are referring to.
Kat, you couldn’t have moved the pot two feet to the left?
