A little bit of background on the pixies, with relevant information for those of you who were curious about the “no male pixies” thing earlier.

Whoah! Colors!
That’s pretty cool.
so if the ‘average’ pixie master swordmage can already conjure/replicate enough blades to blot out the sun (wah!) how many of her ginormous blades will ancient, VERY experienced magnolia be able to cough up?
…..i´m suddenly hit with the vision of a deadly, gleaming tornado of visciously sharp blades shreding everything/everyone it touches to mince
meat. bloody hell. sue will need more than vegetable powers to combat THAT.
The blotting out of the sun IS the master level (average master is a bit of a contradiction in itself), so I’d have to assume our undead/vampiric pixie master could probably do 2-3 layers of swords (one need not darken the whole sky, only the field of battle to “blot out the sun (as far as the recipient of the attack is concerned)”) though it probably depends on the constellation her primary sword is linked to (novices only get to use Orion’s Belt, while more experienced might get the whole of Orion, and masters probably start using crazy pixie constellations using dozens of starts we don’t even have babes for)
For the purposes of constellation alignment, it would simply be Orion, not just the belt. But by my count Orion has about 22 stars in it’s constellation, which would be a difficult constellation for a novice to align her sword to.
Soleil’s sword is aligned with Cygnus, a seven star constellation, so she was able to summon seven blades when invoking her sword’s magic.
Magnolia’s sword is aligned with the five-star constellation of Cancer, but she is proficient enough to summon many MANY more duplicate blades than that.
thats what i thought – she´s got so much experience due to sheer age that she makes other masters pale in comparison.
Ooh, so even aligning with a smaller constellation wouldn’t really limit a more skilled/experienced user. Would going for a larger constellation make things more difficult for a novice, or would it be them giving themselves an early advantage (at least psychologically, since more swords flying around = more danger to opponents) to give them a higher starting off point (or, would they just not be able to align with a constellation beyond their abilities?)
Learning about different magic systems is always fun 😀
And I just reread that “would be difficult for a novice to align to”
Some days my reading comprehension could use some work (I blame my cold/work schedule changing)
i´d say that the number of swords isn´t everything – for example, soleil could conjure a swarm of seven, but they were rather tiny, whereas magnolias one sword is already bloody huge. i´d say the choice of constellation is for personal reasons, like family tradition, what stars where in the sky when they were born, or the mythology behind it….or simply the constellation they´ve forged their sword under.
